During six months, our country will preside over the destiny of the European Union. Far from concerning only the executive power, the construction of a democratic Europe involves all citizens and their direct representatives: members of parliaments. Experience has shown the difficulties of building Europe far from the peoples and their elected representatives. That is why, beyond the legitimate differences of sensitivity over European matters, it is essential that Parliament should play its role fully during this presidency. The aim is clear: giving a greater voice to the Assembly concerning the main issues determining our common future. I shall be particularly attentive to ensure that each group and each MP during these six months will be fully capable to contribute to attaining this goal. So that the French presidency is the presidency of all France. |
