I welcome Women Speakers of Parliamentary Assemblies here today with great optimism.
Earlier this week, France took another step forward for women the world over, by enshrining the freedom to terminate a pregnancy in the Constitution.
We have a lot to learn from each other. Our convictions, our commitments, our political experiences and practices can mutually inspire action to benefit women. Together, and beyond our national specificities, let us convey a common message in favour of women’s rights around the world.
We also have a duty to inspire young girls. To ensure that others follow in our footsteps, and that young women can project themselves into a position of power. Together, through our convictions and our political careers, let’s inspire the girls and women who look up to us to follow in our footsteps.
Together, we can ensure that more and more women around the world can gain ground on the issue of women’s rights. We must make our voices heard as women politicians in this field.
United, we are stronger to move our societies towards a better world for women!
Long live parliamentary diplomacy, long live feminist diplomacy, long live women!
