

Esperança Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias has been the President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique since January 13, 2020. She was born on July 28, 1958, on the island of Mozambique, province of Nampula, graduated in Economics from Eduardo University Mondlane, is married to Felisberto Gonçalo Ferrão and is a mother of 2 daughters.
She has been a member of the Assembly of the Republic since 2015, after having been Vice-President and President of the Planning and Budget Commission. She has held several posts in the State, notably within the Government, holding the positions of Deputy-Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy from 2000 to 2005 and Minister of Mineral Resources from 2005 to 2015.
She was a bank employee from 1976/1980, at the Standard Totta Bank of Mozambique. She completed her compulsory military service.
She has been a member of the Central Committee of the Frelimo Party since 2007, is currently a member of the Political Committee, honorary member of the Mozambican Women's Organization, honorary member of the Organization “Continuadores de Mozambique” (whose objective is to promote children's rights and the transmission of values such as patriotism, solidarity and national unity). She was a member of the Political Committee from 2012 to 2017 and secretary of the Central Committee for administrative and financial matters from 2016 to 2017.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, listening to music and taking care of plants.
