Nathalie Roy is a journalist, lawyer, and politician and has been President of the National Assembly of Quebec since 2022. A lawyer by training, she obtained a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Sherbrooke in 1988 and her diploma from the Bar School of Quebec in 1990. Previously, she completed a multidisciplinary certificate at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in 1984 also in Sherbrooke. Between 1990 and 2012, she worked in journalism, on radio and television. In 2010, she opened her own private criminal law practice whilst continuing to work in television production before making the leap into politics. Elected for the first time as a member of the Montarville constituency to the National Assembly of Quebec on September 4, 2012 under the banner of the Coalition Avenir Québec, she was spokesperson for the second opposition group in matters of Education, Culture and Communication and for the Charter of the French Language. Madame Roy was subsequently re-elected as M.P. for Montarville three times. During her second term, she was president of the caucus and spokesperson for the second opposition group on Justice, Status of Women, Immigration, Integrity and Secularism. On October 18, 2018, she was appointed Minister of Culture and Communications, a position she held for four years. Madame Roy has been President of the National Assembly since November 29, 2022.
